Gentle Among You

April 21st, 2026

Think about the last person you opened up to.

Not small talk—real stuff.

Chances are, it wasn’t because they had the best arguments.

It was because they felt safe.

There’s something about gentleness that lowers defenses.

Paul writes, “We were gentle among you, like a nursing mother…”

That’s not how most people picture influence.

But Paul understood something we often miss:

➡️Truth is only received at the level of trust.

He didn’t push.

He didn’t posture.

He didn’t perform.

He shared the gospel—

and he shared his life.

That combination is what made his message believable.

Dallas Willard once said, “We don’t believe something by merely saying we believe it, or even when we believe that we believe it. We believe something when we act as if it were true.”

People are watching for that.

Not perfection—

but authenticity.

A relational explorer knows:

You don’t earn the right to be heard by speaking louder.

You earn it by being present.

This week:

  • Stay in conversations longer than you normally would

  •
  • Show interest that isn’t tied to an outcome

  •
  • Let someone see something real about your life

Questions:

  1. When have you felt safe enough to be honest with someone?

  2.
  3. What tone do you tend to bring into conversations—hurried, guarded, intentional?

  4.
  5. Who needs your presence more than your perspective right now?

  6.
  7. What would it look like to build trust before offering truth?

Identity Line:

Because we are deeply known and loved by God, we become people who create space for others to be known and loved as well.

In Christ,

Pastor Brad.
