Being a Canadian we have already had our Thanksgiving – back on October 12th. Same focus, same food, same family. It is somewhat self-indulgent (but fun) to be able to celebrate Thanksgiving twice in the same year much to the disappointment of many. The time is closer to our harvest but other than the time frame it is virtually the same thing as what we do in America.

Both our kids are coming to our home this year which is really cool. We have only a few weeks to go before they drop in on our scene for Christmas. So Thanksgiving is a really exciting time for us because we know we are on the doorstep of seeing our kids. Now that Colleen has set her roots back in Canada we have to travel to see each other, which makes the times that we do connect, eagerly awaited moments in our yearly journey.
Having said all that I would be remiss not to point our minds toward the fact that, outside of God’s goodness, we would have little to be thankful for. Remember the wondrous statement of James 1:17:
Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.
(NASV)

God is generous and bountiful. He has blessed us with every spiritual blessings in heavenly places so that, with His indwelling Spirit filling our lives, we can flourish and be filled with the abundance of His life regardless of what goes on around here.

I hope that your Thanksgiving is filled with every good gift from above and you have a sense of the generosity of God toward you already this year (not even speaking about the gift of His Son at this moment).

Enjoy your Thanksgiving with friends and family.

Blessings,
Pastor Brad Little
